Last month was about finding your way into the BLTX community.
October is about something just as important:
building what comes next with intention.
Some plans are moving forward. Some are taking a little longer. And along the way, we’re learning more about what strong organizations—and strong communities—need in order to grow sustainably.
This month, we’re sharing one lesson worth carrying into your own business, one opportunity to connect in person, and a few signals about what’s coming next.
Moving Forward
Building thoughtfully, even when plans move
Community-building rarely happens in a perfectly straight line.
A few things are moving behind the scenes at BLTX:
Leadership. We’re completing communications with the incoming Leadership Cohort and will introduce the new leaders publicly once that process is finished.
Programming. Our planned September 30 event was canceled, but we’re working to bring the conversation back in the coming weeks. Watch our social channels for the new date.
Membership. We’re continuing to shape what deeper participation in BLTX should look like. We’ll share that invitation when the model and experience are ready.
Member note
Thank you for growing with us. We appreciate your patience as we navigate the ever-changing landscape of this work. We’re taking care to build opportunities for connection and learning thoughtfully, and to share details when they’re ready. Thank you for being part of the B Local Texas community.
What We’re Learning: Two lessons worth carrying forward
Build the system before you add the people
One takeaway from our Board Chair’s first Operations Foundation Program session was simple:
Growth gets fragile when critical work only lives in someone’s head.
Before adding headcount, ask:
Who owns the work?
Can someone else pick it up?
Where are the real bottlenecks?
Adding people can create capacity—but only if the systems around them are ready.
The takeaway: make the work visible before you ask more people to carry it.
Pilot before you scale
One advantage of being part of the larger B Local ecosystem is learning from communities facing many of the same questions.
A recent conversation with B Local San Diego reinforced a useful idea:
Start small enough to learn.
Their experience shows the value of testing programs, building partnerships, and developing clarity before trying to scale an idea.
We don’t have to solve every challenge alone—and sometimes another community’s lesson can shorten our own learning curve.
Community Pulse
What we’re paying attention to

Purpose-driven businesses need more than good intentions. They need practical pathways to relationships, resources, buyers, learning, and opportunity.
One idea we encountered recently is Uplift Procure, a model from LEAF designed to connect larger institutions with local vendors while recognizing that small businesses may also need financing and operational capacity to fulfill larger contracts.
It raises a useful question for Texas:
How do we create opportunity and help local businesses become ready to capture it?
That’s a conversation we want to keep learning from.

On the Horizon
What to watch for next
New leaders
The next BLTX Leadership Cohort is taking shape. We’re finishing the conversations that need to happen before introductions begin.
Keep your eyes on our socials.
A rescheduled conversation
The event originally planned for September 30 will return. We’ll share the new date once the details and updated assets are ready.
Deeper participation
We’re continuing to shape what membership and deeper participation in BLTX should look like.
We’ll invite you in when it’s ready.
Global Entrepreneurship Week
November 16–20
BLTX is exploring a combination of virtual and in-person community moments during Global Entrepreneurship Week, with activity being developed across Texas.
Houston, Austin, and Fort Worth are among the regions currently being explored.
More details as plans become firm.
Regional connection
One event in one city cannot serve a state this large.
Long-term, we want more ways for people to find BLTX experiences close to where they live and work—and more opportunities for local leaders to help shape those experiences.
2027 learning + membership programming
The membership infrastructure we’re building now is intended to create the foundation for deeper peer learning, workshops, collaboration, and other structured programming in the year ahead.
We’ll share those opportunities as they become ready.

That’s Issue No. 3.
Building community means knowing when to move quickly—and when something deserves a little more time.
This month, there’s one thing you can do right now:
Come spend some time with us.
Join us October 18 at Palmetto State Park.
Follow along as we introduce new leaders and announce the return of our postponed event.
And keep telling us what would make B Local Texas more useful to you, your business, and your community.
We’re still building.
More importantly, we’re building it with people who care enough to keep showing up.
Know someone who belongs here? Forward this issue to them.
